NATIONAL & REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

OUR GEOGRAPHICAL FOCUS

We are currently working to develop our work to address lonelienss and social isolation in specific areas following funding focused on each geographical region.  Areas we are currently building concentrated partnerships are in Devon and Scotland. We also have plans to build similar links in Northern Ireland and Wales by early 2024.

DEVON

Following the appointment of our Regional Development Officer for Devon, Richard Taylor, in 2020 we have been excited to see significant activity in our aim to build partnerships in the county to address loneliness. This includes the establishment of four new befriending schemes as well as delivering volunteer training in a number of local community settings.

NORTHERN IRELAND

We are working towards raising match funding to enable us to recruit a National Development Manager for Northern Ireland. Plans are already underway with discussions taking place with key agencies, individuals and faith groups.

SCOTLAND

Since April 2023, we have been engaging with organisations and individuals in Scotland through our National Development Manager, Michelle Candlish. This is enabling us to create new opportunities to establish befriending schemes aimed at socially isolated older people, and offer training to volunteers in effective communication skills.

WALES

We are working towards raising match funding to enable us to recruit a National Development Manager for Wales. Our aim is to begin this project by early 2024.
