THIS IS

OUR STORY

Having established several community hubs across the city, which are accessed by thousands of people, we have become aware that there are those who need help that we need to go out to first to help them overcome loneliness and isolation. We have been encouraged to do this by Nottingham Together and various referral agencies. Our short term aim is to enable several volunteers to reach out and bring those who are lonely back in to the family of the local community in NG9. Our longer term aim is to see this initiative replicated by churches throughout the region.

THE WORK OF

LINKING LIVES UK

Linking Lives UK is a national registered charity (1170325) which operates according to Christian principles and values. Based on the model of a successful Berkshire charity, we work with churches and Christian organisations to establish befriending projects aimed at socially isolated older people. This is achieved using a community franchising approach in which local partners are responsible for the management of their project, with support and advice being provided by Linking Lives UK.

Partners running each new project receive the necessary training and guidance required to establish a Linking Lives project in the community. This is accompanied by a comprehensive set of template documents and procedures along with an operations manual. As a charity, we work to ensure that quality standards are maintained and improved at all times. In order to achieve this, annual reviews are carried out in each local area, and an annual conference is held as a way of sharing good practice and remaining aware of the latest national developments.

Linking Lives UK received a silver award for ‘Best Replicable Project’ at the Christian Funders’ Forum in 2016. We also participated in a government consultation during the compilation of the Loneliness Strategy in 2018, which featured a case study from one of our London projects.

“Without Linking Lives, the paperwork alone would have taken a year to write and put together. As a result of our partnership with Linking Lives, we are at an amazing starting point to reach and support isolated older people in our community.”

CURRENT PROJECTS

Linking Lives projects are already making a significant difference in their locality. To see the location of these, follow the link contained in the map opposite.

Volunteer visits improve the quality of life for isolated older people by increasing opportunities for engagement in the community, leading to improved mental health and increased confidence and self-esteem. Volunteers also benefit from learning about the experiences of those from other generations, and churches are become better placed to reach out to and care for those on the margins of their community.
