Leicester Western Ward Linking Lives

On 7th March 2017, we registered our latest Linking Lives project which is situated in north west Leicester. New Parks Methodist Church recognised the need for support for isolated older people and approached us about setting up a befriending scheme in May 2016. They then attended a training event in Berkshire and learned about what is involved in researching their community, building networks and recruiting volunteers. They subsequently raised the funds required to employ a coordinator for two days a week, and their first group of volunteers received the necessary training on the same day as the registration.
The coordinator of the project – Sarah Taverner – explained:

 “Without Linking Lives, the paperwork alone would have taken a year to write and put together. As a result of our partnership with Linking Lives, we are at an amazing starting point to reach and support isolated older people in our community.”

This year we applied to the National Lottery Community Fund to ask for support for our project....
