The Two’s Company Keswick befriending scheme has been really busy over the last few weeks. Ten volunteers have now been fully trained, with others lined up to be trained next month, and have several befrienders now matched with friends. These befrienders are now visiting their friend in their homes or phoning them once a week to help to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Christine, one of the befrienders says, ‘For me it’s a privilege to be a member of Two’s Company. I have been matched with a person who has lots of interests and a wonderful personality. Volunteering for this has really enriched my life.’
Two’s Company Keswick is pleased to support National Befriending Week which runs from 1st to 7th November and is chance to raise awareness of everything befriending is. Befriending continues to be needed as a way of decreasing loneliness and social isolation by providing a source of connection and community, be that face-to-face or at a distance. Now, while there is still an increased awareness about loneliness, is the perfect time to raise awareness about the positive impacts of befriending to both the befriender and their friend. New volunteers are always welcomed as more people in Keswick and the surrounding villages are referred for befriending.
