The Two’s Company Keswick Befriending Scheme hosted a tea party on 21 June to celebrate its first anniversary. Over 30 people enjoyed the opportunity to chat over afternoon tea and a cuppa and were greatly encouraged to hear about the first year’s achievements. The Bishop of Carlisle, the Rt Rev James Newcome and patron of UK Linking Lives reminded those present of the increasing impact of loneliness and thanked all those involved in getting Two’s Company Keswick up and running.
Keith Rigg, scheme leader, said, ‘It was great to welcome a mix of volunteer befrienders and their matched friends, along with representatives of partner organisations, funders and trustees. There was a great buzz of conversation throughout the afternoon and it is really encouraging to see the involvement and support of the local community in the growth of this befriending initiative.
The hope for the coming year is that Two’s Company Keswick will be able to offer befriending to an increasing number of people in the Keswick and CA12 area and that there will always be sufficient befriending volunteers. New referrals and befriending volunteers are always welcomed and please contact Fiona on 07832 858537 for further information.
