Woodley Baptist Church

A modern building on a housing development

A church-led community survey raised the issue of isolation in the local area for Woodley Baptist Church. The church used the evidence gathered from the survey, which pointed to high levels of loneliness and isolation, as the basis of an approach to local GPs and social workers. It was Christmas time and the church offered to make some home visits to those that might be referred to them – and GPs and social workers took it up on its offer straight away.

The survey was the church’s way of throwing the net out, making clear its intention to do more in the local community, and finding out from residents and statutory agencies what the needs were in the area.
