HOW WE GOT TO WHERE WE ARE…

 

1998

Link Visiting Scheme established at Woodley Baptist Church, Reading to enable volunteers to visit isolated older people in the community

2008

Partnership developed to broaden geographical spread of the work across Wokingham Borough

2009

Funding received from borough council to help develop the work further

2010

Link Visiting Scheme registered as a charity and continued to grow

2012

Work began to develop to replicate the approach of Link Visiting Scheme on a national level and a partnership began with Cinnamon Network to achieve this vision

2013

First new partnership developed and work continued to expand to establish new schemes on a national level whilst continuing to build befriending on a local level

2016

Linking Lives UK was registered as a separate charity to continue the establishment home visiting befriending schemes on a national level. (Link Visiting Scheme continues to thrive within the Berkshire area)

2020

Two’s Company telephone befriending approach was developed in response to national lockdown

2022

Good Conversations Volunteer Training package developed as an online 2 hour course to equip volunteers involved in centre-based activities such as community cafes, lunch clubs and drop-in centres.
